Introducing Tummy Time and Early Developmental Activities

Helping your baby grow and thrive through fun and engaging activities is one of the joys of parenthood. These activities not only support physical and cognitive development but also strengthen the bond between you and your baby.

Tummy Time Exercises

  • Tummy Time Mats: Lay your baby on a soft, colourful tummy time mat with interesting textures and patterns. Encourage them to lift their head and look around.
  • Mirror Play: Place a baby-safe mirror in front of your baby during tummy time. Babies love looking at their reflection, which encourages head lifting and neck strength.
  • Toy Reach: Place toys just out of your baby's reach while they are on their tummy. Encourage them to stretch and reach for the toys, which promotes upper body strength and coordination.
  • Chest-to-Chest: Lay your baby on your chest while you recline. This provides tummy time with the added benefit of bonding and comfort.

Sensory Play

  • Sensory Bottles: Create sensory bottles filled with colourful beads, water, and glitter. Shake the bottles to capture your baby's attention and encourage visual tracking.
  • Texture Exploration: Offer a variety of safe objects with different textures, such as soft fabric, bumpy balls, and crinkly paper. Let your baby touch and explore these items.
  • Water Play: Fill a shallow basin with lukewarm water and let your baby splash and play. Supervise closely and add floating toys to enhance the experience.
  • Sensory Bags: Fill clear, sealable plastic bags with gel and small, colourful objects. Let your baby squish and manipulate the bag to explore the textures and colours.

Interactive Games

  • Peek-a-Boo: This classic game helps develop your baby's understanding of object permanence and provides endless giggles.
  • Pat-a-Cake: Sing and clap along to "Pat-a-Cake." The rhythmic clapping helps develop motor skills and coordination.
  • Musical Instruments: Introduce simple musical instruments like rattles, tambourines, and maracas. Shake or play the instruments to encourage your baby to listen and move to the rhythm.
  • Hide and Seek Toys: Hide a favourite toy under a blanket or cloth and encourage your baby to find it. This game enhances problem-solving skills and curiosity.

Incorporating these fun and engaging activities into your daily routine can greatly support your baby's physical and cognitive development.
